Bird safety & hygiene

There is nothing better than the joy of watching birds feed in your garden. Providing food and drink is a great way to lend them a helping hand, but it’s also crucial you keep their feeding area clean to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

Regularly cleaning bird feeders, bird tables and bird baths is vitally important to ensure birds stay healthy. We recommend you clean bird feeders, tables and baths at least once a week. The water in bird baths should be changed daily.

Our feeders have been designed to be as easy to clean as possible. To clean your feeder, table or bath use a non-toxic disinfectant such as Ark-Klens or a mild (5%) bleach solution and cleaning tool to remove old food and waste. If disinfectant is unavailable, use warm, soapy water. We recommend fully dismantling feeders to clean them. Use a cleaning brush to clean hanging/window feeders, and a scraper for tables and ground feeders. Rinse all the parts after cleaning and ensure they are completely dry before reassembling. Always clean feeders outside while wearing waterproof gloves and make sure you wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.
